I love my snacks and treats! I love raw cauliflower pieces, baby carrots, and on a family movie night, I like to have some popcorn drizzled with Smart Balance Light. Aside from the human snacks we get to share with mom and dad, here are some very delicious cruelty-free alternatives for your pups!

  • Bellyrubs Organic (Veggie Recipe)
Otis loves his daily belly rubs. Mom says “belly chakra” and Otis rolls right over!  These “belly rub” treats are a favorite with both of us. 100% organic ingredients, USDA Organic certified. Organic brown rice flour, barley flour, rolled oats, olive oil, carrots, peas, pumpkin, molasses, and a hint of garlic. In the shape of a heart!
  • Alaska’s Bakery Organic Wheat-Free & Date Treats
These look and smell just like little homemade oatmeal cookies.  So good!
  • Fruitables
Only nine calories a piece, these baked organic treats are in the shape of a daisy, my mom’s favorite flower. They come in a few different flavors that are all great: Pumpkin & Blueberry (our fave!), Pumpkin & Apple, and Pumpkin & Banana. They’re also the perfect size treat for when we play the Dog Brick game.
  • Buddy Biscuits
We like the “itty bitty” size for when we’re learning new tricks or we’re being rewarded for good behavior. These treats are shaped like little people, and are also a great size for the dog brick game. Our cousin Nicky likes to put two or three people in each slat for us to find. There are a few different flavors: Veggie, Sweet Potato, and Molasses Madness – great when a pup is in the mood for something a little extra sweet. Buddy’s also makes regular-sized treats of the same cruelty-free flavors.
  • Mr. Barky’s Vegetarian Dog Biscuits
They’re vegetarian (actually, no dairy here – so vegan), but they’re still shaped like a good ol’ dog biscuit bone. Made with whole grains and yucca (yummy and so good for you!), with added vitamins and minerals.
  • Dogswell Veggie Life Happy Hips
Dried sweet potato slices with added glucosomine, chondroitin, and vitamin E. With no byproducts, added sugar, artificial colors or fillers, this a great way to keep our joints healthy and strong. Great for older dogs with arthritis or dogs with hip dysplasia. Low Fat, too!  Note: chondroitin comes from shellfish, so if your pup wants to be strictly vegan, go for Dr. Harvey’s Sweet Potate’r snacks instead.
  • Dr. Harvey’s Sweet Potate’r
I already blogged yesterday about Dr. Harvey’s awesome food and supplements. But just to mention again, his Sweet Potate’r treats are sooooooooo yummy!
  • Earth’s Best
That’s right… organic baby food!  Every once in a while, just a couple of  spoonfuls is a real treat.  It’s a great treat option for pups with digestive problems, too.  We tend to go for the “first” jars — as in “First Squash,” “First Carrots,” and “First Apples.”

Well, all the treats listed above give a pup plenty to choose from, but there certainly are more cruelty-free treats waiting to be discovered. Please let my mom know if you find anything particularly tasty… or if there’s any treats out there for our feline friends that we could tell people about.  Word on the street is that lots of cats go for cooked aspargus and also cantaloupe!

Tomorrow, I’m wrapping up my guest-blogging stint with an extra-special post…
Namaste,
Galileo
