Tucson Tamale Company
Tucson Tamale Company opened its doors just a couple of years ago, and it’s quickly joined the ranks of the city’s “bests.” In addition to their small storefront restaurant, TTC makes its tamales available around town; they are available for purchase at several stores and farmers markets, including my local Whole Foods. When I’m looking at a busy week, I add some of the frozen tamales to my cart for a quick mid-week dinner. And how fantastic is it to have healthy tamales?!
Yesterday, we had a few dozen tamales delivered to the law school for a lunchtime event hosted by the Animal Legal Defense Fund student chapter. Guest speaker and professor at the law school Roy Spece gave an insightful talk on the subject of Animal Law and Bioethics while we all enjoyed some of Tucson Tamale Company’s vegan options:
- Austin: spinach and mushroom
- Boise: sweet potatoes, yam, and sun-dried tomatoes
- Berkeley: black beans and corn
- New Delhi: vegetable curry
- Vegan Blue: calabacitas in blue corn masa
I love ‘em all, though I have to say the Austin is my absolute fave of the bunch. If you’re in Tucson, you must try these tamales! For those outside of the Tucson area, an online store is in the works that will make these tamales available nationwide; in the mean time, why not try making some tamales yourself, inspired by TTC’s cruelty-free creations?
