Evolution Diet for Dogs & Cats
Hi, everyone! My name is Otis – big brother to Galileo, who was the guest-blogger here on mom’s site during Companion Animals Week last fall. When it came time to write about products by Evolution Diet, I just had to do it myself; this is the most excited I’ve ever been about dry dog food, and their other stuff is awesome, too! While we still enjoy Humane Choice, the dry food made by The Humane Society of the United States, and Dr. Harvey’s, which is a real treat of dehydrated vegetables that my parents cook up and add in great protein sources like tofu and quinoa, Evolution Diet has dry and wet food that’s cruelty-free (vegan!), while it still meets our nutritional needs. I know some of you out there may be skeptical about dogs not eating meat, but this plant-based food has been approved by veterinarians for dogs and cats of all life stages. Just so we could try out the goods, we first ordered the Gourmet Pasta Intro Pack, which includes dry and wet food:
- 2 lb. Gourmet Pasta Kibble (dry):
a blend based on whole grain oatmeal, with carrots, peas, potatoes, tomatoes, and molasses all listed as ingredients, along with fruit enzymes from pineapple and papaya. - 1 can of Gourmet Entree & 1 can of Vegetable Stew (wet):
with peas, carrots, potatoes, brown rice, avocado, wheat germ, oat groats, and soybean oil (crude protein 8.0%)
I highly recommend you sample for yourself! There’s also a Gourmet Pasta Cat Intro Pack available for all our feline friends.
Talkin’ Treats! Max & Ruffy’s
While you’re shopping online at Evolution Diet’s web site, you also can stock up on dog treats by Max and Ruffy’s, which mom brought back for us a couple of years ago after a trip to Washington D.C. for a conference. While at the Taking Action for Animals Conference, she’d come across this great local company (Virginia-based) that made human-grade treats for pups — she sampled some herself! I love the “Molasses Explosion” flavor, which is a blend of organic rice and wheat flours, molasses, pumpkin seeds, and extra-virgin coconut oil. Galileo likes “Mother Quinoa’s Pumpkin” that combines organic pumpkin, rice flour, olive oil, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. “Wolf Peach & Herb” is a nice Italian-style treat, flavored with tomato paste (“wolf peach” is the German name for the tomato), olive oil, parsley, and oregano. My brother and I are so lucky because we get to have pasta with our Grandma’s sauce almost every Sunday for dinner; but, especially for our canine friends who don’t get Italian food so often, this treat will be a real delight! As mom would say, Tutto bene!
Note: Please consult with your veterinarian before making sweeping changes to your companion animal’s diet. A simple way to start: How about letting your animal participate in “Meatless Mondays”?
