Snazzy Handbags & Wallets at Herbivore
While I was browsing around the clothing store Herbivore in Portland a couple of weeks ago, a few handbags and wallets caught my eye. It’s always exciting to discover new designers who are making cruelty-free products… and share them with you!
Handbags:
- Alchemy Goods
These stylish bags are constructed using inner tubes and seatbelt straps. I especially like the large messenger bag styles, and they have a cool laptop bag. For designs that are geared more towards being out and about town, check out the Ravenna and the Magnolia. AG also makes wallets in various sizes. - Eco-Tote Bags by Reveal
The large quilted tote is made from 100% recycled materials — melted down plastic bottles, spun into yarn. The same-color stitching on the solid color black or violet bag gives it a sophisticated, chic look (no arts and crafts-y look here!), which makes it a great accessory that could easily transition from daytime use to meeting up with friends later in the evening. I’ve seen smaller, dressy purses by Reveal available online at various web sites, too. - Pansy Maiden
Handmade in Boston by seamstress Laura Collins, who uses cruelty fabrics (no wool, silk, leather) and washes them in plant-based, eco-friendly detergents. The designs are creative and range from small shoulderbags to backpacks and diaper bags. I also love that the mills where Laura gets all her cotton, twill, tencel, and hemp fabrics are aligned with Fair Trade regulations, and that she donates fabric scraps to local art programs and artists.
Wallets:
- Espe
Espe’s wallets (and handbags) are great for having a little fun with accessorizing. The products at Herbivore and the ones I’ve seen online all make use of vibrant colors and intricate designs — swirls, flowers, etc. My friend Autumn purchased a cream-colored wallet by Espe, among some other Herbivore finds. - The Vegan Collection
This brand isn’t new to me, but I have to mention it here because I picked up a new wallet for my husband Seth during this particular shopping excursion. Wallet designs for men and women are available — including some longer “clutch” styles for women. I like the clean lines of these wallets. Seth’s new wallet is an oversized bi-fold, with plenty of room for cash, receipts, and cards. VC also makes money clips and belts.

Hey, Sharon. Thanks so much for mentioning Pansy Maiden in your post! Out of all the amazing brands Herbivore carries, I’m so humbled you included my brand in this group Kind companies (and The Vegan Collection, love those guys!) Keep up the good work you are doing! And take care
